Our 5 Step Plan
Leadership Development for Churches
This 5-Step Plan is a fundamental guide for churches, stressing the importance of cultivating leaders from within, regardless of size or demographic. It offers a straightforward framework for effective leadership development, suitable for those without a plan or those looking to assess their existing strategies.
Step 1
Understand and communicate the role of the local church, Baptist Association and regional organization (eg GWFC) in leadership development.
Step 2
Identify by name the emerging, developing and investing leaders in your church.
Step 3
The pastor, senior leaders or current supervising leader meet with each of the identified emerging, developing and investing leaders.
Step 4
Discuss next steps based on the current leadership journey of the individual.
Step 5
Conduct an annual review and determine further next steps for your identified leaders. Also identify new emerging leaders and complete steps 3 & 4 with them.
Leadership Development Journey
Leadership development is a life-long journey.
It’s helpful to view the different stages of leadership so that the next steps in development can be targeted.
Emerging Leaders
These are younger leaders starting their leadership journey, possibly as young as primary school age or they can be adults taking on a new role in a leadership capacity.
Developing Leaders
These are existing leaders that have potential for leadership roles of greater influence.
Investing Leaders
These are experienced leaders who have a capability to help other emerging or developing leaders. Often this is done in a formal or informal mentoring role.

Mark Chapple
GWFC is passionate about investment into leadership. You could be just starting out or what we call an “Emerging Leader.” A “Developing Leader” committed to grow and develop your leadership character and skills. Or an “Investing Leader” with a desire to nurture and develop other leaders. We also help organisations with their leadership development plans.
